1.   About the Department of Education

The Faculty of Education was set up in November 2004 with the Department of Education. The Department has been offering B.Ed. ODL Programme, Recognised by UGC, Approved by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education), from 2008 in Telugu medium and B.Ed. Special Education ODL Programme in Telugu and English media, Recognised by UGC, Approved by RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India), from the Academic Year 2009. The Certificate programme in Literacy and Community Development (CLCD) and Certificate Programme in Early Childhood Care and Education (CECE) were started in 2011. The Education & Special Education  programs satisfies the U.G.C and RCI recommendations for curriculum and takes into account the learning outcomes and community needs. The faculty members are continuously working on updating the curriculum of the programs to meet the latest technologies and the fastly changing society needs.

2.   Courses-Under Graduate level

The Faculty of Education at present offers two  Undergraduate (U.G.) Programmes and two Certificate Courses i.e B.ED and B,ED Special Education in distance mode and Certificate Programme in Early Childhood Care and Education and Certificate Programme in Literacy and Community Development. All the programmes of the Department are recognized by Distance Education Bureau (DEB), UGC, New Delhi and Rehabilitation Council of India. Admission to these programmes is open to all Citizens of India without any restrictions. However, the area of operation of the University is confined to the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh only. The Department has been following Choice Based Credit System for the U.G. Programmes from the year 2017-18.

3.   Courses-Research Programmes

Research programmes leading to M.Phil and Ph.D were introduced from 2018 onwards.  The topics selected for research in Education.

4.    Profile of the Faculty Members

The pedagogy in Open University is different from conventional university. The central core faculty working in the university has to perform multitasks. They are involved in the planning and designing the programme, developing the self learning course materials, preparation of audio and video lectures, coordinating with internal assessment of students, counselling to students in both theory and practical sessions and in evaluation process.

 At present, one Professor, three associate professors & five assistant professors (C) are working in the department.

 i.  Prof. Ghanta Ramesh : 

A dedicated teacher, able administrator and a passionate educator, Sri RameshGhanta has rendered significant services to Teacher Education / Higher Educationdomain, viz. Curriculum Planning, Pedagogy, Educational Reforms, EducationalEvaluation, Educational Research & Extension Services, and particularly inEducational Administration & Training for over three decades at State and Nationallevel. Prof. Ramesh Ghanta headed the Department of Education and the Institutionof Advanced Study in Education at Kakatiya University, Warangal for over two and halfdecades. He held the position of Dean, Faculty of Education of the same Universityfor almost two decades. Prof. Ramesh published more than 10 books and over 30research papers in various journals of Education in India and abroad. He has guidedten Ph.Ds. and more than 20 M.Phils.Prof. Ramesh has held different academic and administrative positions at theUniversity level and has been involved with a number of Committees and Commissionsrelating to Education, particularly in Teacher Education. He has submitted severalresearch / baseline study reports to the governments at State as well as National level.An eloquent speaker, Prof. RameshGhanta, has guided a number of budding teachersand teacher educators to mould them into responsible instruments of change for futuregenerations. A widely travelled academic, he’s known in almost all the teachereducation departments of various universities of the country and abroad.Prof. Ramesh Ghanta was selected for Fulbright Fellowship (USA), a prestigiousone (1989). Subsequently, he availed himself UGC Associateship and conductedadvanced research in aesthetic education. Apart from being a recipient of UniversityBest Teacher Award of Andhra Pradesh (1997) and National Best Teacher EducatorAward by IATE (2009), Prof. Ramesh has also received the UNESCO / NLM Award(2010) and Saakshar Bharat National Literacy Award of Govt. of India, MHRD(2012) as Chairman of the Best State Resource Center for Adult & ContinuingEducation, Hyderabad. Prof. Ramesh has been awarded Emeritus Fellow by theUniversity Grants Commission (2013). He has travelled extensively both in India and abroad.Presently, Prof. Ramesh is a Senior Professor, with the School of Education and Training,MANUU, Hyderabad which is a Central University. He is also the President, IndianAssociation of Teacher Educators (IATE), New Delhi, which is the oldest and largest bodyof Teacher Educators in the country. In addition to several other academic responsibilities,Prof. Ramesh is also the Chairman, Governing Body of the State Resource Centre (SRC)for Adult and Continuing Education, Hyderabad which is funded by the Ministry of HumanResource Development, Govt. of India. Presently he is heading two Committeesconstituted by the NCTE / MHRD to look into the curriculum for different TeacherEducation Programmes and also to suggest necessary amendments to the existing NCTEnorms to strengthen Teacher Education in the country. Prof. Ramesh Ghanta has apassion for research in the advanced areas of Education, and he is also known to be an
exemplary administrator in Education

ii. Prof. Chandrakala:

Possesses B.Ed. Special Education Hearing Impairment, M.A (Public Admn), M.A (Philosophy), M.Ed.(Education), M.Phil (Education), Ph.D (Education). She has qualified UGC NET (Education), New Delhi in 2007. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Education, Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad since 2008. Prior to this, she worked as a Special Educator in Government Residential School for Hearing Handicapped, Avanthi Puram, Miryalagudu, Nalgonda District, Telangana State, India. he has attended and participated in several National and International Seminars/Conferences/Workshops on Teacher Education. She has 14 articles to her credit.  She has presented 13 research papers in National and International Seminars.  She wrote a books entitled “Giriputrula Vidyapai Banjara Snskruti Prabhavam”(2014), Education for Students with Autism, Introduction to Disabilities, Tribal Education & Education for children with Hearing Impairment.B.Ed. & B.Ed. Special Education Programmes “Methods of Teaching Social Studies”. Development and translated English into Telugu, She has written various lessons pertaining common courses of Self Learning Material on Education, Dr.BRAOU.  She is presently Coordinator of B.Ed. Special Education Programme in the Department of Education, Dr.BRAOU. She is Member of South Zonal Coordination Committee (ZCC) Zone -I as a part of Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi. Currently  She is the Head of the Dept of Education from 2021.

iii.  Prof.G.Mary Sunanda, started working as a  lecturer at Ekashila college of Education (1998), Jangoan, Warangal. Later on joined St.Alphonsas’s College of Education, Madhura Nagar,Hyderabad. She was qualified in SLET in Education, and was awarded Ph.D in Education in the year2007.She joined Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University in the year 2008, July. in the Dept of Education for teaching English methods.She Published 3 books namely, God in different Roles; Direct English; and  Empowerment pr Rural women and self Help groups. she published more than 27n papers in national and international journals.She was the Head of the dept of Education from 2018-2020; currently  Director/ic for Women’s Development and Extension centre.

iV.  Dr.Padala Laxman- MA (Psy), M.Sc(Maths), M.Ed, Ph.D(Education), Junior Research Fellow. Working as Assistant Professor ( C ), Department: Education, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar OpenUniversity.  Worked as Academic Counselor, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University Study centre, Secunderabad PG College, Secunderabad. Camp officer – Telangana State Education Common Entrance Test-2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017, as a Lecturer, Olive College of Education, R.R.Dist Resource person (M.Ed (Spl.Edn)) for Takoor Hari Prasad Institute, Hyderabad.  and  Nursing Research for Government Nursing College, Hyderabad.
 As a JRF & SRF Scholar Engaged classes for M.Ed and B.Ed students in University College of Education from 2012 to 2017. He attended and participated in several National and International Seminars/Conferences/Workshops.

V.  Dr.K.Dayakar is an Assistant Professor (Contract) of the department; He did his M.Sc. (Chemistry) from Kakatiya University in 2001, B.Ed (2007)., M.A (Psychology) in 2012, and Ph.D. (Education) from Osmania University in 2021 and M.Ed. from English and Foreign Languages University in 2013. He was awarded Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities (RGNFD) in 2015. And he cleared UGC-NET (Education) in 2016, NTA-NET (Psychology) in 2020, Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET-I & II) in 2019. His area of research interests are Teacher Education, Educational Psychology and Guidance and Counseling. He joined this university as an Academic Associate (Contract) on 2nd March 2022 and got elevated to Assistant Professor (Contract) in September 2022. He participated in thirty two webinars/online seminars (National & International), three international seminars, two national seminars/conferences and presented papers on a variety of themes. He published five papers in various reputed journals (out which two were published in CARE listed journals) and one book chapter. He participated eleven Research Methodology Workshops/course/Faculty development courses. He has 7yrs of teaching experience at undergraduate (UG) level, 13 months teaching experience at B.Ed. and M.Ed. level. He has also 7years of Research Experience (1yr at M.Ed. and 5yrs Ph.D. level). He has also undergone training as Secondary Grade Classroom Observer (investigator) for a period of One Week by the experts training  from University of Virginia, USA & University of Oxford, UK at Center for Economic and Social Sciences (CESS), Hyderabad and played important role as a researcher (Three Weeks) and presenting in the results.

Vi.  Smt. K.Umadevi  is an Assistant Professor (Contract)-MR/ID of the department   of  Education. Her academic qualifications are M.A., LL.B., M.Ed in Special Education(MR/ID) and M.Phil  and (Ph.D). she started working as a lecturer at Sweekaar Academy of Rehabilitation Sciences, Secunderabad in Department of Special Education from 2009-2011. She holds deferent positions there like HOD, of Hyderabad Special School, Coordinator for M.EdMR –SE (IGNOU), & B.Ed SEMR-Dr.BRAOU. She Joined Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University in the year 2012, She published 18 Articles in National and International Journals ,attended 10 workshops. She was the member of Rehabilitation Council India Visiting expert for Inspections , India Education Congress life member ship  and Indian Distance Education member.

Vii.  M.Nagaraju is an Assistant Professor (Contract)-VI of the department  of  Education. He Joined Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University in the year 2012,

Viii.  J.Aruna started working as a lecturer at Sweekaar Academy of Rehabilitation Sciences, Secunderabad in Department of Special Education from 2006-2018 September. Her academic qualifications are M.A in Telugu and Sociology, LL.B., M.Ed in Special Education(HI) and M.Phil in Education. She Joined Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Open University in the year 2018,September in the Department of Education as an Asst. Professor (C)in Special Education(HI). She published 11 Articles in National and International Journals , 19 Book Chapters, and 19 Conference Proceedings in National and International Conferences. She was the Member of Professional Bodies i.e. Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi and Indian Distance Education.

5.    Academicians Associated with the Department

Several eminent academicians of the sister conventional two universities are associated with this department in the processes of curriculum development, course content development and evaluation. The faculty working in the respective colleges where study centres are located are serving as Counsellors to conduct the face to face  interactive sessions.

6.    Number of Courses

  • B.Ed           :  2 years + Practical’s
  • B.Ed-SE     : 21/2 years (5 Semesters, Each semester 6 months) + Practical’s

  • Certificate program in Literacy and Community Development (CLCD) : 6 months
  • Certificate Program in Early Childhood Care and Education (CECE)     : 1year

7.  Student Support Arrangement:

UG, and PG: The student is provided with the Self-Learning Material supplemented by the Audio, Video Lessons and Tele-Conference on specified Sundays. The face to face counseling in the workshops at the study centers. All the B.Ed & B.EdSE students,  have to attend the workshops +Practical’s  and internship at study centers for their training which is mandatory.

M.Phil/PhD: one semester classes will be conducted in the university for the research students along with a project thesis.

8.  Infrastructure facilities

        Department of Education is established in the1st floor of Academic Building having the following:

  • Staff rooms.
  • A common toilet for students.
  • RO system drinking water is available for students and staff.
  • Psychology lab
  • Library
  • Depending on the need of practicals conducted, LCD projection is also available.
  • One computer lab with Wi-Fi facility is available.
  • Eleven Study Centres with model schools for B.EdSE (Workshops, Practical’s & Internship)
  • Ten Study Centres with model schools for B.Ed (Workshops, Practical’s & Internship)
